The declaration came during a working visit by Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo to Warsaw, where the two leaders discussed security concerns for their countries, the European Union and NATO members.

The meeting underscored a strengthening of bilateral cooperation in border protection and the development of the defense industry.

Tusk expressed gratitude towards Finland for its willingness to assist Poland in rapidly catching up in civil defense preparedness.

Orpo emphasized Europe's responsibility for its security, urging an increase in the continent's defense production capabilities, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Finland has committed to doubling its ammunition production to support Ukraine over the long term and enhance Europe's deterrent capabilities against Russia.

In discussing broad security issues, Tusk addressed the impact of the war on Polish agriculture, stressing the need for the European Union to augment support and protection for European agriculture.

He voiced concerns over the losses Polish agriculture has faced due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and advocated for measures to protect against unfair competition from agricultural products entering Poland from Ukraine.

Tusk's remarks came amid ongoing farmer protests across several European countries, including Poland, Germany, France, Italy, Greece and the Czech Republic, against low agricultural product prices, the European Green Deal, and cheap imports from outside the EU.

The talks between Tusk and Orpo also covered the situation in Polish agriculture and the Polish-Ukrainian border, with Tusk thanking Orpo for understanding the challenges Poland faces.

He pledged to intervene at the European level to safeguard Polish agriculture and emphasized the expectation for increased support and protection from European partners for the sector.

The meeting reflected a broader European discourse on security, defense cooperation, and agricultural stability in the context of ongoing geopolitical tensions, the PAP news agency reported.
